ADAPTIVE REUSE CONSULTING FOR HERITAGE BUILDINGS
Whether it is an historic farm house now being surrounded by suburban development, or an old building on Main Street in the city, we and a number of municipalities consider it important to retain elements of our past. Frequently this requires creative adaptive reuse of these old buildings to something other than museums.
In the instance of the smaller scaled residential environments, the task may be to create a more contemporary addition/renovation to meet today’s standards of living, but featuring the heritage attributes of the earlier structure. In this it is important to feature the heritage attributes of the historic structure by contrasting exterior finishes such that the ‘old’ is clear visible from the newer, adaptive reuse additions.
For commercial ‘Main Street’ buildings, it may be important to retain all, or most of the original structure, again with emphasis on restoration of its heritage attributes and construction materials, with the addition of the larger, more intensive use of the property for today’s needs. Think of an antique gem amid a glass box, or other more simply detailed contemporary structure.
MW HALL CORPORATION, as certified heritage consultants, as well as accomplished architects and planners, has substantial expertise in creating Adaptive Reuse buildings in appropriate settings.
